Big Relief for Students and Parents
The Delhi government has decided to officially recognize nearly 500 private schools that have been running for years in non-approved (non-conforming) areas of the city. This long-pending step will create about 20,000 new seats for children from economically weaker sections (EWS), disadvantaged groups (DG), and children with special needs (CWSN).
Fixing a Long-Ignored Issue
For more than ten years, many private schools had been operating without official approval due to bureaucratic red tape and outdated policies.
Education Minister Ashish Sood said earlier governments ignored the problem, which stopped thousands of poor children from studying in recognized schools.
He added that the current government is finally making the process fair and transparent, giving all schools an equal chance to get recognition.
How Schools Can Apply
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has opened an online portal from November 1 to November 30 for schools to apply.
Officials will check each application and issue recognition to schools that meet all rules and standards.

What Recognition Means
When a school gets recognition, it must follow the Delhi School Education Act and the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which ensure:

Every year, around 2 lakh students apply under the EWS/DG/CWSN quota, but only about 40,000 seats are available.
