RBSE to Conduct Board Exams Twice a Year from 2026-2027

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has announced a new method that will change the way students take board exams starting in the 2026-27 academic year. Education Minister Madan Dilawar has confirmed that the board will from now on conduct Class 10 and Class 12 exams twice a year.

  • The first exam will be mandatory for all students.
  • The second exam will be optional, allowing students to boost their grades in up to three areas.
  • The better score from the two attempts will be used to determine the final outcome.
  • This change reduces exam stress, promotes flexibility, and encourages students to continue learning throughout the year.

How the Two-Session System Will Work

  1. According to official news, the first session of RBSE exams will be in February and March, while the second session will be in May and June.
  2. Both exams will follow the same syllabus and evaluation pattern.
  3. Students who want to enhance their results can take the second exam.
  4. The best of two results will be used in the final marksheet.
  5. This dual-exam strategy allows each student to correct past mistakes and improve performance.

RBSE follows CBSE’s Dual Exam Model.

RBSE’s decision follows that of CBSE, which has previously established a comparable approach. Both boards plan to:

  • Remove exam pressure on students.
  • Encourage ongoing preparation over last-minute study.
  • Connect with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), which promotes assessment flexibility.

Challenges for Schools and Teachers.

While the change gives hope, it also presents practical challenges:

  • Administrative load: Managing two large-scale exams requires additional personnel and resources.
  • Equity gap: Students in rural or under-resourced schools may struggle to make good use of their second chance.
  • Teaching strategy: Teachers will need to modify to ensure that pupils are exam-ready for both sessions.

Conclusion

The RBSE’s twice-a-year board test reform is a positive step toward a more flexible and student-friendly educational system. It can help students learn consistently and lower their test anxiety if it happens correctly. This would make Rajasthan one of the best states in the country for educational reform.
