Karnataka Launches Early Action Plan to Boost Government School Admissions for 2026-27

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Karnataka Department of School Education has issued a detailed action plan well before the current academic year concludes. The goal is to increase admissions to government schools for the 2026–27 academic year, with a particular focus on girls, out-of-school children, and students with special needs.

Officials stated that the strategy aims not just to raise enrollment but also to strengthen community trust in government schools through ongoing involvement and awareness campaigns.

Enrollment Targets and Focus Areas

  • Under the plan, the department has set a goal to:
  • Increase admissions to government schools up to the pre-university level by 5%.
  • Increase admissions to Karnataka Public Schools, PM Shri Schools, and Adarsha Schools by 10% compared to 2025-26.
  • Encourage inclusive education by recognizing and helping disabled children and migrant students.

Month-wise Action Plan

The government has implemented an organized, month-by-month approach.

  • November: Launch awareness campaigns, school exhibitions, and parent-teacher meetings.
  • January: Campaigns promoting girls’ education and community participation.
  • February to March: Conduct household surveys to identify out-of-school and disadvantaged youngsters.
  • April to May: Plan admission campaigns and summer programs for incoming students.
  • June: Begin the new academic year by closely monitoring attendance and enrollment trends.

Encourage Parental Trust and School Engagement

To build trust in government schools, schools will show their academic successes, better infrastructure, and better teaching. The initiative also encourages schools to use social media to promote their facilities and success stories.

During the Children’s Day celebrations, officials anticipate that over 60 lakh parents would visit schools across the state, offering a significant chance to encourage admissions and highlight school assets.
